heathershaped: (Buffy stakes Edward FTW)
+ Merlin fandom is so shiny right now. ♥ I mean, still not very diverse, but the weekend has brought us new pictures of the actors from the con and of Bradley and Santiago playing football, plus news that Gwen and Morgana are going to (somehow) get even closer ... series two can NOT COME FAST ENOUGH. And I need to get off my ass and finish some of the fics I've been wanting to write before that happens. Hopefully I can finish my Big Bang fic at the very least.

+ I think I'm done with the CW. Everything on it fails lately -- or maybe I'm just growing out of it. I'm just not that into SPN anymore. TPTB refuse to cancel Smallville even though it's gone on for at least a season too long. Even Gossip Girl has gone from guilty pleasure to kind of hard to watch. And now there are 'new' promo pics for the CW upfronts for Smallville and SPN that are just insulting. Recycling season 6 promos again? 'Shopping Erica's head on Kristin Kreuk's body, really; they think we don't recognise that dress? They've only recycled that pic of Kristin about 35 times. Also, 'shopping Jensen's head from some other shoot onto that season two promo? And we all know Jared's body isn't that thin anymore.

Also, I can name like fifty people just on my f-list who are better with Photoshop than those clowns.

+ Trek fandom is kind of my happy place right now. The never-ending meme about whether or not Uhura rocks aside, there is just so much pretty and squee to be had. *pets it* Plus between the kink meme, the gen meme, and about eight different fic comms, I am swimming in fic, more than I really have time to read, and it's a beautiful thing. Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek is COMPLETE CRACK, I do not recommend it (except I totally do).

+ I have nothing to report on the RL front because there's just not much I want to talk about. Meh all around.

+ Also, LJ appears to be down, but I suppose this crosspost from DW will show up whenever it comes back?

-- First, the dorky: I cannot contain my squee over the fact that Smallville is on tonight. I cant. Wait. To see what happens. I am such a nerd about this it's not even funny. Hell, even Supernatural looks like it's going to be pretty good; if only because last week was a bit of a cliffhanger. Also, I'm liking Anna/Hildy from Mad Men. ;)

-- I signed up for Netflix. *headdesk* I've been resisting, but it's actually kind of cool and pretty cheap. I started out by ordering the entire series of The West Wing one disk at a time. :P I've recently decided that I need to catch up with it. *nod* When it first aired on television, I couldn't get into it; I guess because I was young and not really into politics, etc. Better late than never, though.

-- Go do my poll if you want a holiday card from me this year!

-- Now for spoilery discussion of True Blood.

Twilight and True Blood are matter and anti-matter; if you put them in the same room together, the universe would cease to exist. )

That got long, so I think that's enough for one post.

In which I say a few words about last night's Smallville and Supernatural.

Spoilers, obviously.

-- Firstly, in the random odd news department, on watching Rachel Maddow last night I discovered that Bhutan now has a new king -- the world's youngest monarch. He's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and he's a total cutie. Seriously. Only 28, too. I kind of want to visit Bhutan now.

-- Secondly, and somewhat related to yesterday's post, LJ is doing odd things again. Some kind of option that makes your LJ searchable by email? To make it more -- what -- facebook-y? I don't know. I opted out of it, because this journal doesn't have a whole lot to do with my RL anyway; even though I talk about my RL here, few people in RL read my LJ, and I sort of feel like if I want people to access it I'll just link them myself. (side note: I don't know that I want LJ to be more facebook-y; for one, I have a facebook and for two, facebook.com and all the other social network thingies are blocked at work whereas LJ is not. I feel like LJ is kind of a sekrit place where you can see and read all sorts of things that you normally would not even be able to access at work. :P)

-- I just finished watching last night's Smallville. I find it sort of bittersweet and ironic that the season in which the writers finally get their act together might be the last one. :/ I can honestly say that I'm enjoying this season of Smallville, plot-wise, more than Supernatural or Heroes, and that's saying something. (I've always been a SV fan, but I've had no illusions about the quality of the writing for the past two seasons.)

Supernatural is still great, but only because the boys are so pretty and adorable. I don't know if I'm feeling the plot this season. The first couple episodes were brilliant, and now it's just a mixture of filler episodes in which Sam and Dean are adorable, and then odd religious/allegorical stuff that Kripke's not really sure what to do with. I don't know; for me it was better when they were dealing more with family and brotherhood dynamics and just living the life.

And Heroes is just, well, weird. I still really like both shows, but maybe I was just expecting more, whereas with Smallville, I wasn't expecting much and so far I'm really pleased. (Plus, seriously, Clark in shirtsleeves every week? It's hypnotic.)

That's enough rambling for tonight, I think. ♥

-- So first, a pimp. It's not for a fic, and it's not for anything I did, and for once, it's not my RPG (LOL); it's just a set of icons like the one I've used in this post that are pretty much made of win. There's a whole slew of them here.

Yeah. That's right.

-- I went to do the volunteering thing last night. It was pretty neat, and this week I'll be working myself up to making a few phone calls for my guy.

-- I'm excited about the new tv premiering in the next few weeks. So, since I can't think of anything else to say for this post, I made a little picspam to celebrate. Warning, some might find these spoilery, but then again I hate spoilers and didn't feel spoiled at all, so. clicky for new promos/stills from Smallville, SPN, Dexter, and a bonus new picture of my bb Joseph Gordon-Levitt )

** tom/smallville-related rant )

** I can't write anything, ya'll. Thing is, I really want to. I have ideas for a couple different pairings, especially h/hr, that just won't come out. Do you guys do anything do kickstart your muse? Maybe I should just turn off the TV. *g*

** This isn't a muttering per se, but Obama picking Biden made me squee. Possibly because I was so afraid he'd pick Bayh or something that I'm really just relieved, but still, for the moment I am mostly squeeful. Liked seeing them out in Springfield today. Though I was so mad that cable news managed to scoop my text message alert (which came at three a.m., snerk). *giggle*

** I am so behind on Mad Men. I haven't seen any of season 2, yet. I need to clean out my DVR.

** Halfway through Rebel Angels and still really liking the series. We'll see how it ends, though, I'm worried.

** Even though I am still not remotely inclined to see the Twilight film, Robert Pattinson made me laugh in Empire Magazine:

"When you read the book," says Pattinson, looking appropriately pallid and interesting even without makeup, "it's like, 'Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.' I mean, every line is like that. He's the most ridiculous person who's so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn't do that. And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin so he's obviously got some issues there."

** That's all I've got for today. :P
