heathershaped: (Trek: Uhura/Spock)
Genderswapped Star Trek! I want the rest of this movie in my eyeballs.

(The embed's not showing up for me on DW (though it does show up on LJ) so here's a link if y'all can't see it.)

There's no reason why we shouldn't or couldn't have more of this for real.

(Also hi, hi, hi everyone <3)

+ JK Rowling has The Single Mother's Manifesto; remains awesome while doing so.

Nobody who has ever experienced the reality of poverty could say “it’s not the money, it’s the message”. When your flat has been broken into, and you cannot afford a locksmith, it is the money. When you are two pence short of a tin of baked beans, and your child is hungry, it is the money. When you find yourself contemplating shoplifting to get nappies, it is the money. If Mr Cameron’s only practical advice to women living in poverty, the sole carers of their children, is “get married, and we’ll give you £150”, he reveals himself to be completely ignorant of their true situation.

+ Britney Spears releases photos of a recent photoshoot before and after airbrushing; win.

Some stuff wot I read recently:

+ CNN Will Grind A Debate Out of Anything, Baby, ANYTHING from Wonkette - and you can actually read the comments!

+ Finally, my bb Jay Smooth continues to win at life and pwnage. "I don't judge people for being ignorant, but I do judge people for being arrogant about their ignorance."

I about died at 2:05. Who says there's no use for auto-tune?

So have a video of Johnny Weir and Stephane Lambiel skating doubles.

Let me repeat that.

In other news, skating was awesome last night, Johnny was gorgeous, Evan was gorgeous, Daisuke was gorgeous, lol Plushenko, and it's FRIDAYYYYY. And I'm going to get my hair done tomorrow.

Second of all, SKIP TO 2:37 IT WILL BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR DAY... if you are me.

+ In other news, Sons of Anarchy finale last night: I AM SAD OVER CERTAIN EVENTS AND CLIFFHANGERS SHOULD BE GUNNED DOWN ON A HIGHWAY WITH A SAWN-OFF. That's all I have to say about that. SoA is one great show.

Back to work, thank you for indulging me in distracting myself.

+ Has anyone tried the Write or Die desktop app? Worth the ten bucks? I like the regular version.

+ I want to share this vid, most recently picked up at [personal profile] deepad's journal.

Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie giving a talk about 'The Danger of a Single Story'

On reading, writing, and how the stories we're exposed to can shape our perspectives. It's eighteen minutes long, but more than worth a listen.

The problem with the single story is this: it robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different, rather than how we are similar.

Word. I would quote the whole talk back at you if I could.

But are there any vidders on my f-list? I can think of three of you off the top.

So my favorite movie trailer of the year so far isn't even real.

Fan-made trailer for Green Lantern starring Nathan Fillion )

(H/T to [livejournal.com profile] shantirosa)

That was unbelievably cool, you guys. And I think the fact that you can pretty much recognise where most of the clips and even the music were taken from makes it even more awesome and impressive and fun to watch.
