Adventures in Blogging 1
Nov. 1st, 2008 05:49 pm*** Can I stick to something for thirty days?
We shall see.
National Blog Posting Month starts today. I'm doing it in place of National Novel Writing Month, because I'm a bit too big of a wuss to attempt to write 50,000 words of original fiction in a month. Baby steps, right?
Where to start? Well, I posted an Alphabet Meme while back (there are still some letters that need a topic so go give me more things to talk about). As good a place to start as any. (eta: fixed the link. *facepalm*)
the_rainbow_jen suggested that I talk about Work:
Not a whole lot to talk about, I reckon. I'm a research associate for a company that's under contract with the NIH (National Cancer Institute division). Basically they contract some of the legwork of their research out to us, and at the same time we get to fund some of the projects that we want to do ourselves. We're at an NCI campus in Maryland that's part of a huge U.S. Army base. The actual Army side of the base does biodefense work and research into some of the nastier infectious diseases, and on the NCI side, we study just about everything.
For my part, I'm studying non-infectious mutants of HIV virus, trying characterize them and find out where their defects are when compared to an infectious strain. Most of what we learn about viruses (and most things, really) comes from studying them when they're not working, and going backward from there. I've been working on the project for the last year and a half, so it gets tedious sometimes, but ultimately I want to be able to publish what I find in a virology journal. I've a ways to go before I'm there, though.
Exciting, huh? XP

*** Hope you're all having a great weekend. ♥ I've spent my Saturday going to get tag and title stuff done on my car, then coming home and being generally lazy. Tomorrow, it's GOTV and RPing.
We shall see.
