Fandom-wise, what ships do you like to read and hate to read?
My fandom preferences started out very narrow, and have been broadening ever since. I joined fandom as an H/Hr shipper, and didn't spend a lot of time on Livejournal -- I stuck mainly to the forums on Portkey.org. It wasn't until I started writing (sporadically, heh) that I moved to LJ primarily, though I'd still post H/Hr stuff on PK. Anyway, LJ has just about anything you'd ever want to read, and all in one place, and that's where I started to broaden my scope. Still, I stuck with Hermione-centric pairings -- Hermione/Viktor, Hermione/Blaise, Hermione/Bill, Hermione/Charlie, and Hermione/Harry of course.
I didn't get into rare pairs until I started RPing, and over time I really started to branch out. My OTP is still H/Hr, but I love Harry/Luna, Harry/Ron, Ron/Draco, Trio, Dean/Seamus, Greg/Luna, Hermione/Luna, James/Sirius, and all the Hermione pairings I listed above. But I'm at the point where I'll read almost anything. I read a lot more Draco and Neville and Weasley fics now, and I have a soft spot for Ravenclaws.
As for what I won't read? I hardly ever read Snape. He's interesting as hell, as a character and in canon, and I've read some really good gen stuff. But I don't really ever envision him getting naked with anyone. :/ There isn't much else I absolutely don't read. I might include Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione in that, but I have read them plenty of times even if just as side ships, and I don't recoil from them the way I used to. LOL! I can see Ron/Hermione better than I can Harry/Ginny, because I love Ron so much. But even though I'm not a fan of either ship, I hate character bashing and other copouts. I happen to think it's possible for Harry and Hermione to be together without Ron or Ginny being assholes, and I think it's possible for Ginny and Harry to break up without Harry being an inconsiderate tool, or whatever. But I digress. I'll leave my fanfic pet peeves for another post. :P
What are you picky about?
I'm most picky about Harry het. The only two girls I've ever really read him with are Hermione and Luna. As for slash, I like him with Ron, Bill, and Blaise. And Charlie, in the hands of a couple authors. Major soft spot for well-done Charlie/Harry.
I'd also say that I've become pretty picky about Draco. I feel like much of fandom has turned him into this effete, leather trouser-wearing manwhore, and he's so not that. :P
What to you read and write?
I haven't even written that much, relatively, so I'll just list the pairings I've done: Harry/Hermione, Viktor/Hermione, Harry/Ron/Hermione, Roger/Hermione, Dean/Seamus, Hermione/Bill, and Greg/Luna. I think that's it. XD
