Huh
I'm not intentionally spamming or anything but...
The whole Dreamwidth thing; what gives? I hadn't even heard about it until just this week, but apparently this is that new fandom-friendly LJ-esque service about which there has been buzz for over a year now. Are any of you planning to get one? I don't mind grabbing an account if people I know are going over there (because I can never resist trying new shiny things), even if I have no earthly intention of leaving LJ.
The fact that there is already an an inaugural comment!porn meme is a good sign.
This stuff just makes me worry more about fandom dissipating, though. Sigh.

I'll be getting one, probably buying a year's paid account to get in. Not that it matters because I never post anyway. :P But I've been in online fandom for ten years and am not about to leave anytime soon, and this has a solid feel to me, much more so than Insanejournal that just happened to be there and suddenly got a big influx of LJ discontents. This one's being built with a lot of care and there are lots of high-profile fandom names involved in the effort and I do get the feeling that this will become something solid.
Although I'll still be roleplaying on LJ, and picking up pb icons on IJ, and crossposting any fic (*hopeful*) both here and there and everywhere. Ha. Maybe fandom won't be dissipating so much as we'll get used to there being several such sites to check out for various content? After all, before LJ (which was X-Files fandom for my part) there was usenet and mailing lists and forums and sites everywhere, and we kept track of them all. :)

It looks like cross-posting would be pretty easy, which is a big plus since I won't be leaving LJ. (I could never figure Semagic out.) And some of the folks who are getting DW accounts are folks I still want to keep up with, so I think I'll give it a try. I love how the girl who's running it seems to be marketing it so far, getting lots of input and involvement from people.
And thanks for the perspective re: fandom dissipating; I hadn't thought of that before. I know personally, I don't mind clicking around to keep track of people if that's what it takes. *clings to fandom*
