Adventures in Blogging #26
Short, mostly silly pre-holiday entry today.
-- I don't really have anything big planned for Thanksgiving; not going anywhere far. I'll just be going down to my folks' house to help cook (and eat, haha).
-- Turns out I've got Friday off after all, and I'm trying to decide whether I want to go do my Christmas shopping then; see if I can get some deals or something. Do any of you do the Black Friday thing? Is it really crazy (or if it is, are the savings worth it)? Do I want to be bothered? :P
-- I've been slightly giggly all morning over finding pictures of Kristen Stewart and Michael Angarano sitting on the steps, blazing. *dies* Michael's my Greg at road ahead and Kristen is in Twilight of course, and they've been together for a couple years. Anyway, I don't know what's in that pipe, but I'm just sayin'. I find this funny as hell, and Michael looks adorable. Kristen has stoned!face sometimes anyway so it's not too surprising, but then again maybe RPattz has had an influence on her after all. *snort* I do feel kind of bad for them; surely they didn't know they were on camera, but still. When you're in the number one movie in America? Probably not a good idea to get blazed on your front steps in broad daylight. :/
-- On that note, I hope everyone who celebrates it has a great Thanksgiving! Drive safely. Also, take a cue from our president-elect, and have lots of pie. (eta: moar pie lulz)

I hate shopping on Black Friday. I've gone in the past and if you go anywhere with major bargains, you almost have to get there right when they open to get any great deals. Things are gone pretty fast, or they only put out X amount of sale items so people show and they're gone and have to choose other more expensive stuff or go elsewhere. It probably depends on the type of store and location, of course. I find the crowds a headache, the lines too long, and the savings not usually worth the effort/time.

I don't really know what Black Friday is like in your area, but I work in retail, so I can tell you what I know from the other side of the counter: I work in a craft store, so it's probably a little different than say, the mall, but we open at 6 am and last year there were people already lined up by that time. It was non-stop. This year, we're not sure what to expect, with the economy not in the same place as it was last year. If anything, I kind of expect it to be busier- people under the delusion that it will be cheaper to make things for people than to buy them.
We do have some really good deals- nearly everything is on some sort of sale, and we passed out 20% off transaction coupons last week. Also, in the break room, there are notes saying that it will be so busy that we won't be allowed to leave the building (boo, but yay potluck!).
A lot of stores will have the same sales into the weekend, but supplies may be limited. I'd recommend going with a very specific list. With all the deals, it would be really easy to spend too much impulsively and then realize you got eight things for your mom but none for your dad. But you probably know that. Hmm, what else? I've heard of "Cyber Monday" which is apparently the day that those same Black Friday stores will be having sales online, which you could wait for. There's always shipping that way, though.
This comment is turning epic, but I thought it was funny: my managers tell us we aren't allowed to call it 'Black Friday' in front of the guests because it has a bad connotation. Did you know it's called Black Friday, not because crazy shoppers get trampled on their way to the tickle-me-elmo's, but because it's the day that most major retails stores go from in the red to in the black? In ONE day! That's ridiculous to me. We're supposed to call it Green Friday now, which I don't think sounds any better.

Wait, yes I can. I spend way too much time at that damn store.
