if I can take you boy, it just might throw this town
+ Cassie Hannah Murray as Matt Smith's companion? LOL, they must be trying to start wank. People whined because they thought Matt was too young and Hannah's nineteen ... still, if this happens, it might make me poke my head back into that fandom, like I did for Freema. :P
To be honest, I can't see it happening, but it would be better than Kelly Brook or Lily Allen.
+ I got yet another
boxofmagic idea while driving to work this morning, and I think this might be the one. XD It's weird, and I don't know what the pairing(s) will turn out to be, though.
+ Come leave some prompts for some of our
hermionebigbang authors to pick over! Hermione-centric, gen, crossover, or shippy bunnies all welcome, for adoption, feeding, or breeding purposes. Whether or not you're participating there must be something you want to see. ;)
+ Question: There's been random friending by Russian journals and empty accounts, and various other weirdness happening here and elsewhere on LJ, so I'm thinking of friends-locking my journal (except for the fic and icons). Of curiosity, why do you guys lock your journals or if you don't what made you decide not to? (Just generally speaking; obvs I don't need to know exactly what caused the decision. :P) I've thought about it a couple times before, but haven't ever gone through with it. I hesitate because ... well, I don't know. I just don't like the idea of locking everything down and I don't have a lot of personal stuff on here, and yet, recent happenings are making me consider it.

I finally decided to lock it this winter...one reason was because of the increasing number of troll activity. I was getting a growing number of random troll friends, or anonymous comments, and I wasn't cool with that. The second was, I was using it for more personal stuff that I didn't want spread all over.
Anyway, now that it's locked I can't imagine it that I ever had it open! When I look at some of the stuff I posted, I don't know what was in my head when I made it public. I moved my icons to a public location, but for the personal stuff, I can't imagine ever going back. The people on my friends list I trust, and having it locked protects you from the trolls or trouble causers...not to mention, those who take the time to read your profile and friend you usually are more interested in getting to know you than just a random passerby trying to build a friends list quick.

I keep mine locked up tight for personal reasons. I use mine as an actual journal sometimes, and that doesn't need to be broadcast to everyone. Otherwise, I just like to know who's reading my stuff. The troll thing didn't even occur to me but I'm glad I'm locked up anyway.

I'm not so worried about the bot journals now that I've read some good advice on recognising and handling them. (I report them at once, and they're almost always suspended within a week or two.) I wouldn't friend back an empty journal or anything written in all Cyrillics anyway as there'd be no point, and as long as the bots aren't friended back and given access there's nothing they can do that they can't also do if your journal is locked (i.e. add you).
I've never had trolls comment, but I can say for certain that if I ever start using my journal for personal entries or anything not strictly fandom related, I will lock and filter. It feels icky having stuff like that out in the open. The climate online has definitely changed, or else I've just lost my innocence somewhere along the way – six years ago when I first started keeping an LJ journal, I wrote in detail about my personal life (granted without names given) with very little worry at all.
It can be a tricky balance to strike – good luck with deciding the way that works best for you. :)

I friends locked my journal just before I went to Thailand on my gap year, to stop my family from connecting my travel blog (which was also on LJ) with my personal journal - and so that, even if they DID find it, they wouldn't be able to read any of the important stuff.
I leave some of my posts unlocked - all my fic, some of my rants and political stuff. The vast majority of it is locked though, just because of the sheer amount of personal information I put on there. My journal is three years old and in the course of that time I've not only tracked my day-to-day life (so a stranger could find out significant amounts of my history) but some really closely guarded stuff as well. I mean, if someone WANTED to know a lot of stuff about me and they connected me to my journal and it wasn't friends locked, they'd be able to find out a HUGE amount about me just by reading it. The test is whether you'd be comfortable if someone you didn't really want knowing you (some creepy male acquaintance, for instance) found your journal, knew it was yours and read it.
(Also, yes - Hannah Murray would cause SO MUCH wank. They'd better NOT cast someone that young, though - seriously, DW would start looking like Hollyoaks with aliens and it would lose a bunch of its audience who would write it off as a tweens show. They need someone older than Matt Smith, to ballance it out, I think. Catherine Tate would have been brilliant if she'd stuck around...)

It'd good to know who's reading. I guess I just assume the people who've friended me are reading and no one else would really care. But this may be naive of me. :P

(LOL, I think 'Hollyoaks with aliens' might be the funniest comment I've read today.)

I've been noticing all that weirdness lately too :( I never usually add those people back, but it's irritating having them on my friend of list and not being able to do anything about it, lol.
Also, I saw that Hannah news the other day! I actually really loved her as Cassie and wouldn't generally having a problem with her being the companion, but it would be weird having so many young people on Doctor Who.. I don't know.

It may be naive, idk. I read a couple journals that I'm not friends with.

The way to prevent being found by really stupid means is to make sure you answered the "find by email" question NO.
Well, and in your case, possibly not have a username that is identifitastic. ;)
I lock stuff about family, work, and other people's stuff they might not want shared with the world at large. And of course, any time I'm being wanky so FW can't link.

stupidlax is majority of my flist is people that I tend to (sort of) know in some way, but for most people that really doesn't mean anything - and it isn't everybody. It's sort of surprising in that I'm usually incredibly anal about anything identifying.Well, except the time I was sending in a fic for an exchange at about 3am and managed to use my real-life email account *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*.
(I wish too I'd gone by more of a pseudonym online for, but I didn't think of making up a first name when it came to RP - and it's rather hard to go by "Idea", ha. It's not like my first name is Princess Conzeula in terms of orginality *snort*, but still. If only I'd known that I would ever...well, do anything besides stalk, when I created my LJ)
Maybe I'm just lucky that I tend to fly entirely under the radar ;)
I really wish I knew what was going on with the random (usually Russian) journals. The friending/unfriending has been going on for a long time, but last week I was getting personal messages in Russian and the like as well.
Heh, on the casting. I would somehow doubt it's going to happen, but I've been horrifically wrong before. Then again, if they want "implied" shipping like they seem keen on, it's not like they can use a woman as it would just seem *cough* cougar-like.

I locked my journal pretty much because the same thing started happening to me along with some weird angry people who just seemed to want to use their journal solely as a way to bitch about their partners. Which is fine but I don't see why they felt the need to tell hundreds of random peple about it and really not something I want on my flist, particularly when their bitching about their wife letting herself go while she's raising a young family. I'm pretty antisocial as well, I don't trust people easily and I just wanted my jornal to be somewhere I felt - secure and happy sounds like I have more issues than I really have, but it's partly true. I like having a smallish flist - it's manageable and you get to know people easier. Plus there's a girl at work who actively will go and search for colleagues on the net and I really didn't want her stumbling across my lj.

(and oh man, my LJ name is such a source of conflict for me. I want to change it so much, but then I think no-one will know who I am anymore. LOL.
Re: the casting, I just think she's WAY too young. Matt's 26, I think? So he's got seven years on her -- but he could realistically have a companion in her thirties or something, without it being cougar-like for implied shipping. Implied shipping with a nineteen year old might be even weirder.

I... really hope no one at my job is trying to find people on the internet! LOL.

I've had a few people follow me here from other communities and comment anonymously, but it's rare. The climate on LJ is changing though, and part of it's because it's growing so quickly. More people know about LJ than used to.
Thanks for the advice! ♥ I'm leaning towards keeping it open and just locking selectively, but based on some of yall's input, there are some things I think I need to be more careful about.

And well re: Dr Who and implied shipping, I think they have no problem with the older male/younger woman (well, the 900 yr old part aside, ha). Even if Billie Piper was...I think 23-ish at the time, her character was supposed to be 19, and either way they implied shipping with her and both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant who had 11 and 18 years respectively on Billie Piper. Then again, there was Catherine Tate...
Heh, I also thought Matt Smith was even younger than that. Why, I'm not sure.
I think she does look way too young though. Her 19 looks about 15, so...yeah. It's all personal preference. I would prefer somebody older. At least though they're not going the kid kid route. I can say I know I wouldn't like that much.
