Adventures in Blogging #18
In which I hope LJ doesn't drop away before I get a chance to finish this post. According to LJ, I have 40 minutes, so I should be good. I'm suspecting that the outage might be longer than four hours, so it was either post now or do today's entry over on IJ. :P
And since it's early and I haven't got much to really say, let's talk about TV. Two shows today: Gossip Girl (shut up), and Grey's Anatomy. Yes, I watch too much television.
Spoilers ahoy.
Gossip Girl (shut up)
I haven't talked much about this one here, but yeah, I watch every week. It's a guilty pleasure of mine, and lately, I don't even feel that guilty about it. It's the most fun you can have on TV on Monday nights, ya'll. The last couple episodes have been a bit weak, but still highly entertaining. Blair owns my soul, and Chuck always brings the lulz.
I'm a little annoyed (and amused) by Aaron. He's pretty, but what a douche! The thing is, it's entirely typical. Who among us didn't know at least one asshole like him back in the day, to some degree or other? The manwhoring, the not really acting like he's into Serena at all, and somehow making it her fault that he's a manwhore.
I mean, come on: "Well, I'm seeing lots of people. I don't know how it works in high school, but I like to date more than one person at a time."
Or this classic: "I could explain who Tamara is and why she was at my apartment last night, but the fact is, you feel something or you don't. If you're looking for an excuse to keep us apart, that's fine."
See? DOUCHE. And of course Serena falls for it. She did fall for Dan, after all. Let's just hope that she listens to Blair and dumps him before she contracts something.
And that's all I have to say about that. (Also, if you are not reading New York Magazine's weekly recaps, you are missing an integral part of the viewing experience.
Grey's Anatomy
I've been behind on Grey's, but I finally caught up last night, and OMG. It's awesome again. They had me worried for a while, there.
Firstly, JEFFERY DEAN MORGAN IS BACK!!!11!!! For at least five episodes even though he's DEAD. And yes, I think it might be because Izzie herself will turn out to be dying, but I can't contain my squee. God, I love that man.
I continue to only tolerate Meredith because her friendship with Christina is so epic. I love how Christina gets all jealous of old BFF Sadie, too.
Speaking of Christina ... OWEN. OMG. You know, Isaiah Washington might have been an asshole, but I really felt like the show suffered without Burke and Burke/Christina. Now, I feel like it's back. Owen is wonderful, my god. And I swear, he's Charlie Weasley in the flesh, man. Not just because he's Jason McKidd with the red hair and Charlie-like build, but personality-wise, man. All tough and gruff and surprisingly caretakey, and so much sweeter than he seems at first. And I love the angle of the trauma he's still dealing with from being in Iraq. Subtle and well-played so far.
I was going to talk about Dexter and True Blood as well, my totally non-guilty pleasures because they are two of the best things on TV at the moment, but with ten minutes to spare before LJ goes away for the day, I'll save those for tomorrow.

I'm not sure that she actually will die, but between that and the rumours, I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes life-threateningly ill. It's just speculation at this point.

He just plays one on TV. ;)

Yeah, Denny and Owen are wonderful additions to Grey's Anatomy. You're right about Owen, he is very Charlie! :D

And suddenly I'm going to like Owen more... I totally didn't think about Charlie. And now I will. hhhmmmmm.... who do I want to be Hermione?

Neville's only on there for a handful of episodes at this point, but Adrian's a regular character. :D

The jury's still out for me on Sadie, but I agree, the actress is good. I love the new dynamic between newBFF and oldBFF ... but I'll always side with Christina.
Hee! The first thing I thought when I saw him was "CHARLIE!!!" :P And I'm not sure the show has a Hermione ... there are definitely some brainier types, like Lexy/Lexipedia (who's brainy and has that whole eager-student--"ooh, I know! pick me!" thing), and Christina, because she's uber-focused and brilliant and quite often needs to relax. But I'm not sure either of them fits my Hermione exactly.
Hmmm. ;)

I'm not sure if I'm rooting for Sam or Bill (leaning towards Bill), but I'm so curious what's going to happen to poor Tara, and Jason and Lafayette and and and...
;)

I think Sam is really sweet, and I totally pegged him as being the dog, but Sookie's chemistry with Bill is just so...wow. I guess it's that forbidden love angle that got me hooked on the pair. And Bill is just so intense. I felt so bad for him when he had to turn that girl, and then she turned out to be so awful. I hope they don't take forever to get season 2 out.
And have you read any of the books that the series is based off of? I saw them last night in Borders, and some of the characters names are different. Like Sam the shape-shifter is known as Quinn in the books. I might start to read them soon, that'll fill the void between seasons of True Blood.
Oh, and I found this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTvniEPfmQU&feature=related . It's from the unaired pilot of True Blood, and has the first Tara they cast. I definitely like the Tara they have now, she has the attitude down to perfection, where the first one kind of falls flat.
Sorry to ramble on, lol! I just love finding new shows that are this interesting, and so far you're the only one of my friends list that's watching it too. :)

I have never watched an episode of Gossip Girl...*hides*
I stopped watching Gray's after Meredith came back from the dead in the second or third season...can't remember which one it was. You know, with the drowning. Though, hearing that there is a Charlie Weasley esq character makes me slightly more interested...although, I'm so behind now it would take me ages to catch up.

I love Christina though - and her interpersonal relationships :) It's not just because Sandra Oh is a great actress, she's a really entertaining character. And though they did take it to some annoying places for awhile, it is nice to see women be normal BFF's.
True Blood is my big guilty pleasure. There are still some things I wish were more like the books (Eric was supposed to be the one who staked Longshadow, grr, and vampires aren't street thugs), but even as an entity onto itself I really enjoy the show still (well, most of the time, ha) and some of it is better than the books because well, Charlaine Harris isn't going to win awards any time soon, and it's 'live'. I can't believe it's almost the season finale! Damn HBO's short seasons. It's almost a shame being 'spoiled' having read the books since there was no mystery in who the killer was.
Though as for what happens to *cough* essentially OC!Tara even I don't know, ha.

Yeah, I feel sorry for Jason. But he's so stupid, he always ends up in trouble! :P I was kind of hoping Lafayette would tear him a new one for getting tangled up with the V when he told him not to.
I haven't read the books! Weirdly, I didn't want to get spoiled for the show (I had never heard of the books when the show came out). But I think I'm definitely going to check them out.
I watched the unaired pilot before the first episode, with the other Tara, so I was really surprised when they changed her! But the Tara they went with is definitely the better one. I sure hope she catches a break soon. LOL.

Christina is my all-time favorite character, and she and Owen are really well-suited. I thought we'd never get a dynamic back that would match Christina/Burke, so I'm hoping this is it.
You know, I've not read the True Blood books, so I'm mostly unspoiled for whatever parts actually are like canon. I didn't know Tara wasn't in the books! I kind of like her though; I hope she gets a break next season. (Also, I heard something about Lafayette that I'm hoping the books just completely throw out altogether. Seriously. Canon be damned.)
Also, how much do I love Eric? It's hard to explain, when I first saw him I expected him to be all girly and broody and typical, but then he turned out to be a total badass.
And why don't I have any True Blood icons?

Yeah, season 4 of Grey's, I missed quite a few episodes, because it started to suck, but I never stopped watching altogether, so I'm glad I stuck with it.
It wouldn't be too hard to catch up! ;)

Eric is one of my favourite characters both in the books and on the show actually. I hope he slowly becomes more 'used' in the show as well (*stays vague as hell*)
As for why you don't have True Blood icons, I have no idea :-P I haven't found that many good ones yet despite having joined the comms. The three I have will have to suffice for now.
*sigh* Now you've inspired me to go dig out my Grey's DVDs. I miss the days of Christina/Burke. Damn the actor's horrible homophobia and early departure from the show. I suppose it helped to shake things up, but still. I'm not ready for the show to end either. Earlier this season (stupid ep with the 'future' flashes) and later last year I thought it was kind of petering out, but it's picked up again (at least for me).

Izzie dying would be amazing though. The fallout? They could take that in such fun directions. Poor Alex...
I'm plugging my ears on the Gossip Girl nonsense, though. My roommate's trying to get me into it and I'm resisting. And failing.
