+ I finally watched the Mad Men finale. From my dashboard reactions I was expecting that to be HORRIBLE, but ... it was fine. By far my least favorite finale and full of WTFery, but I think I was prepared for it to be utter torture, and then it wasn't. That's not to say I LOVED IT: the first half was a bit slow, and then when it did get exciting, it was mostly in frustrating ways.
- I love Megan. She's sharp, curious, sweet, and easy to fall for imo. I also really enjoy her interactions with the kids; they deserve someone like that in their lives. And I think it's pretty obvious that she was exactly what Don seemed to think he was looking for (if I hadn't already been spoiled about the engagement, the ring + the moment when he's watching her deal with the kids at the diner would've given it away). That said, the proposal was ludicrous. And says more about Don's tendency to fuck things up just when they're getting good than it does about the depths of their love. At this point he doesn't deserve either Megan OR Fay as far as I'm concerned. I mean how patently gross was it for him to give her the ring of the man whose identity he stole? I'm curious where season 5 will pick up and whether they'll get married or not. I'm guessing they'll be married when we see them again. And he'll still be a cheating sack of shit.
- Not surprised that Joan kept the baby. Speaking of Joan can we have an entire season of Joan and Peggy talking shit and smoking. <333333
- I still ship Don/Betty.
As for Betty, she remains compelling and difficult to watch and I love her sfm. I don't agree with people saying that she's been ruined or that she's over-the-top or out of character, or even that she's being vilified. She's being exactly who she's always been, and for a reason. I read something on Tiger Beatdown (via tumblr) last night that was so on-point it made me cry: No One's Ever On Your Side: Betty Draper-Francis Still Needs Your Love. (There's some discussion of cycles of abuse that may be triggery.)
I still think hers is one of the most relentlessly feminist portrayals on television.
+ I was going to put more stuff in this post, but nah. Might have a linkspam later though. :D

We all said we wanted Betty to get in touch with her anger, but we expected that anger to look admirable and positive and feminist. We didn’t consider that it might just be anger. That she might just not bother to think about how she was serving the world or women or the audience when she finally got to the point of rage.
