Did I forget to post about Being Human 2x01?

Because I have feelings about it. I'm so glad it's back! And for eight episodes, bweee.

♥♥♥

+ The only thing this show was missing that actually stood out for me was a Bechdel pass, and now? SCORE. Annie and Nina's dynamic is great and I could easily ship it. Loved Annie's conflict over wanting to support Nina as well as be a friend to George and tell him the truth.

+ I really, really love where Annie's character left off in season one, having found her own inner strength again and not being so haunted by what Owen did to her. It was a troubling, triggery storyline (and it's always troubling that shows keep going back to the victimized woman well) but I thought it was at least resolved well because she faced her abuser in the end and she came out stronger (and symbolically more solid/corporeal, not to mention no longer invisible to people). MY POINT IS, in this episode she's the one who was in a position where she was comforting and supporting someone who's afraid (Nina), and it's lovely, lovely.

She is also even MORE adorable than she was before, omg. I didn't think it was possible.

~*~RHYTHM IS A DANCER~*~

Only she could get away with using the WORST SONG LYRIC EVER WRITTEN. I loved her determination about getting the job and I LOVED the way she went about it, and Hugh's reaction was adorable.

Basically every moment she was on the screen was my favorite. ♥ I do wonder where they're going with Random Bar Guy, though.

+ Mitchell! I feel bad for him, and I think this inner conflict he has WRT not having a purpose now that all the external conflicts are over, is really believable. I can't wait to see where it goes. His new friend is interesting. It's probably too soon to tell whether she'll be a love interest or not but I liked her and I can see why he'd connect with her. The Mitchell-George moments were great as well.

+ I love George but in the first three quarters of the episode he was hard to like. Clearly Herrick is sticking to his ribs. Russell played it so well, and so DIFFERENTLY from how George usually is that it was chilling. But I still wanted to smack him for being downright hurtful to Nina. And for cheating on her. It's one of those situations where you can understand why he'd want to close off, not being able to bear her being freaked out by what he is, but you still want to beat him over the head with a clue bat.

Their fight was so raw and emotional and real that it almost felt voyeuristic to watch it, and I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] shantirosa last night about how, considering that they were talking about the fact they're werewolves, realism is no mean feat. So incredibly well-played by Russell and Sinead. IT HURT ME IN MY SOUL.

The makeup scene, such as it was, was really poignant and sad. Seeing George break down like that was heart-wrenching, but equally heart-wrenching was Nina's reaction; to me she almost looked weary. Because she's still freaked out and this is still brand new to her and she didn't ask for any of it, but at the end of the day she's the one who's comforting him, and he's yet to do that for her. (That's been Annie, so far.) So the dynamic between them and the way Annie and Mitchell factor into that is reeeeally interesting so far.

+ I love Nina btw - she's become a seamless part of the group, and I'm totally on board for OT4.

+ I thought the vampire guy was COMPLETELY CHEESY and over the top. Herrick was much more effective and well-played. His girlfriend... I don't know if I like her; she's sort of cliched to me in this weird temptress role. But I do appreciate that the writers care enough about her as a character to give her backstory and her own problems, she's not just a cardboard cutout there to tempt George over to the dark side or whatever.

+ The big bad for the series is really creepy. REALLY creepy. I was extremely disturbed by that chamber experiment and would like to NEVER see that ever again kthnx. GOD. I don't know what to think of the weird exorcist religious stuff that he was doing as he walked through their house, though.

+ Absolutely loved the end when George/Mitchell/Annie/Nina went outside to mingle with the neighbors, even though I can't quite believe they didn't smell the gas repair guy's lie from a mile away. Because after last season, the fact they can finally meet and talk to the neighbors is a big deal, particularly for Mitchell. And I LOVE that he was the one to suggest that Annie make tea for everybody (I like that they get each other) and how delighted she was that she finally has a use for all those cups of tea.

IN CONCLUSION, BEING HUMAN IS BACK BETTER THAN EVER. ♥ I don't have any gifs, but here, have some picspams that I posted to tumblr this past week:
