MERLS, MERLS, MERLS
IDEK, guys.
Not sure where to start.
+ FUCK THIS COLIN SALMON IS NOT DEAD. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT I DID NOT SEE HIS COLD DEAD BODY I DON'T CARE IF HE GOT SHOT IN THE NECK HE'S STILL ALIVE LIKE MAGICALLY OR SOMETHING IDEK BUT FUCK THAT YOU DON'T KILL COLIN SALMON. I WAS AFRAID OF THIS, HOW FREAKING POINTLESS.
*cough* He was wonderful by the way. IS. IS WONDERFUL.
+ Varied interaction! Gwen/Morgana! Gwen and Merlin! Arthur and Merlin! Merlin/Morgana! Uther and Gaius! And more tender moments between Gaius and Merlin! And Uther/Morgana subtext! That was all good. Ben Vanstone never lets me down with the ensemble writing.
+ GWEN/MORGANA HAND TOUCHING. A WHOLE SCENE WITH TALKING OH GIRLS. <33333
+ Gwen and Arthur ship Merlin/Morgana! :D Though Gwen does not appreciate you stealing her thing. SHE brings Morgana the flowers up in this mofo.
+ SUBTLETY WHAT. The references to A/G were so subtle and well-played and wistful, I really enjoyed that as surprising as it was. Another point goes to Ben Vanstone.
+ MORGANA WAS THERE! SHE WAS THERE A LOT! It was so hard to see her so scared and helpless through most of this. Also, oh show I love you, way to send her into the wood wearing something that was possibly even MORE CONSPICUOUS than her green cloak in TKtK. Also I love her with the Druids, and her scenes with Salmon were awesome. I'm glad someone told her.
+ The ep was beautifully shot and epic in scale and it really had my heart pounding in the last half.
****
Now, I have less squeeful and more bewildered things to say. Most of it, I'm sure I'll feel better about later, but at this point I don't know what else to talk about. Also, probably not much of this is coherent. Oh well.
+ Arthur, really? No objections to killing a village full of women and kids? Not even a cursory one as per usual? I'm going to have to assume it got cut, because that was wildly out of character. I can't take it out on Arthur yet. He ALWAYS objects. And he did make some really uncomfortable faces about it all, so I'm sure that counts. ;_;
+ Also how many Druids escaped, did the knights call it off when Morgana was safe? Isn't Morgana going to maybe lie and say it wasn't in fact the Druids who had her, because isn't Uther going WAGE UNHOLY WAR ON THEM ALL now?
+ FUCK YOU GAIUS, FUCK YOU WITH SOMETHING RUSTY AND SHARP AND PAINFUL. I NEVER LIKED YOU AND THIS IS NOT HELPING. I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT. AT ALL.
+ MERLIN COME ON TELL HER. I'm so frustrated that he didn't tell Morgana! What makes him think he can't trust her at this point? Was he just lying to the Dragon? They were so lovely in this episode and they have such chemistry but until he tells her, I don't know. I'm so glad he stood up to Gaius for her but it's bothering me a lot. I guess I no longer see the obstacle.
+ Also, Merlin, what is up with your moral compass, dude. The way he looked at Mordred after he killed those knights. The knights who were only trying to kill everyone he knows and loves, had already killed his mentor (WAIT NEVER MIND BECAUSE COLIN IS STILL ALIVE), and were surrounding his little ten year old self. Was that supposed to be the moment where Merlin realised how ~dark and dangerous~ Mordred is? Because if so... wow. You know what, I'd want Camelot to burn in everlasting hell if I were that kid.
+ Morgana, you can't trust Gaius! You can trust Gwen! D'you remember in 1x07 when you totally told her about your dream? She didn't squeal! And she didn't try to tell you you're not right in the head! And if you think she'd run to Uther NOW, you are so wrong! It's okay, I know you remember bb, even if the writers don't.
+ Also, Gwen and Morgana totally talked about this, right? Like, she's not going to believe Morgana was really kidnapped, and Morgana's going to tell her and they are even now keeping an epic secret, right? Gwen looked like she knew something was up. I need to believe that they are talking about this.
+ BASICALLY I AM ON MORGANA'S SIDE. COMPLETELY.
+ Poor, dumb Arthur. Sigh. I need someone to find out about Merlin soon. ANYONE. GWEN. MORGANA. ARTHUR. A RANDOM STABLEHAND.
In that vein, I'm not sure I like the rift this puts into my OT4. Right? Arthur and Gwen, with Merlin and Morgana lying to them - is that what this is? Are we to believe they don't all trust each other? Because that can't happen. I'm depressed just thinking about it.
I AM WORRYING TOO MUCH, RIGHT? TELL ME I AM. Also, Colin Salmon is alive, y/y??
AND NEXT WEEK CRACKY FUNTIMES. I CAN'T WAIT. But Lancelot, LOL at you, dying for Gwen a hundred times. It's really lucky you're ridonkulously pretty considering you clearly stepped off the cover of a romance novel.
THOUGHTS?? I think I've left some things out. The ep had me riveted, but left me angry and sad in spots.
Not sure where to start.

I guess you already know I agree about everything else (mind twins!). Also: Colin Salmon lives!

COLIN SALMON LIVES. *starts an internet meme*

YES.
God, I don't know. I want to walk away now, because I hate Gaius and I hate Merlin and I can't get on with their epic tragic decisions/their epic stupidity. Also, if druids are magic why can't they hide better from a bunch of jangly, stompy soldiers? Why don't they have lookouts?
Except I saw the trailer for next week and the last third of my epic most beloved OT3 is turning up and how can I miss that?

THIS THIS THIS. I get that we're meant to believe that THIS IS SO HARD but I guess I really don't see where it's that hard? What IS Gaius' reasoning for hiding Merlin from Uther but not Morgana? How is that even valid?
Why is Merlin's secret not worth Gwen getting executed and Ealdor getting decimated, but worth sending Morgana off to the Druids all alone, and then leading Uther's genocide brigade right to them? It is endearing that he doesn't think sometimes, but when people die it is not so endearing.
ALSO YES MERLIN DISPATCHED THE KNIGHTS WITH FOG. FOG. The Druids couldn't have done that?
And I wanted to kick the Dragon in the junk, and I'm not even sure he HAS any junk. "The witch must never know the full extent of her power" -- new tagline for the season, I guess. FUCK OFF AND DIE.
Ugh, I'll get over it.
I can't give this show up though because they give me episodes like last week's, and next week Lancelot's coming back to compose ridiculous sonnets or some shit to Gwen as their lives hang in the balance, and there will be jealous Arthur and probably sweeping music. And Gwen. Have you seen the photos? HAVE YOU SEEN THEM??
GODDAMN YOU, SHOW. I CAN'T HELP LOVING YOU.

I think it comes down to the thing Colin Morgan said at the season 2 preview screening, about how Merlin doesn't kill humans except for that one time Edwin completely ignoring OMG WTF NIMUE AND MOTHER OF EXECUTED GUY IN 01X01. The show's producers aren't thinking clearly. Can't Merlin do a spell that sends team slaughter to wander about in the forest for a while? Can't the druids? I thought 'cause enemies to wander lost in the forest' was Magic 101?

Magic 102 is blasting apart wrought iron grates and unrolling parchment with your eyes.
Making enemies wander lost in the forest isn't until Intermediate Magic 1x03. We'll get there.
Clearly Camelot needs a Hogwarts. Where's the fic where the OT4 become the Founders; is that where all this is leading?
