*yawn*

* I'm taking a snow day today. It's not too bad out there now, but it's supposed to get worse later and I don't fancy being stuck at work. Meh. They used to close the base where I work for inclement weather, or at least delay, but now they rarely ever do, since the person who makes those decisions now is from somewhere a lot snowier than here. But at least I can do some housework and writing. Emphasis on writing.

* Started class yesterday. Not much to report on that front yet. It seems okay so far.

* I watched the first episode of Being Human yesterday, and I really like it. I tried the pilot that came out a few months ago, and while it was alright, I wasn't exactly riveted. They changed out two of the main cast, for the better, I think, because the girl they had playing the ghost really got on my nerves before and I like the new actress much better. They kept Russell Tovey though, from The History Boys? He is the most adorable thing ever and I love his character. I'll definitely keep watching, unlike Demons, which I tried and couldn't quite stand. :P

That's it for now, I think. *hugs*

Yay for snow days! It sucks driving in any snow, IMO. Might as well write then. :D

Yes, button down if that weather is crap. Stinky winter. END, already. *sighs*

I almost rented History Boys the other day. Young, English boys trying to get into university, right? Looked cute. Never heard of Being Human... *tilts head curiously* But if you love it, I'm sure to.

Thank you, by the way. For being so fucking amazing. (I had to swear, I felt that intensely about it :P).

*HUGS*

History Boys is great! Really smart writing and great music. XD And Being Human is a supernatural drama on the BBC.

Hee! I think you're pretty fucking amazing yourself. :P

*growls* I typed out this big long comment about Russel's awesomeness in History Boys, how he's been showing up all over the place recently and how totally in love I am with his character in Being Human. Then LJ crashed and lost it. Humph. Anyway, I'm glad you liked the episode. I wasn't as keen on the new Mitchell, but maybe that's more that his script didn't seem as sharp as it did in the pilot and I guess it could also be influenced by there being a lot less focus on his character in that ep.

I tried Demons too, didn't really get past the first ep. And it wasn't that it was terrible, it just didn't grab me or seem that special. Plus I wish they had avoided the cheese factor, seems like we can't do almost anything in that genre over here without being lured by the need to make it comedic. And you know, sometimes it works when they go for slightly blacker humour, but I'm a bit bored/annoyed by the lighter approach thanks to the last series of Doctor Who, and I'm rambling.

Anyway, hope you enoy your snow day.

Oh no! *smites LJ* I hate when LJ eats my comments.

I thought the old Mitchell was better too, actually -- actually, not him so much as his storyline. The actors they had playing the 'bad' vampires were better and the writing was sharper.

And Demons? Man. I could barely get past the opening credits, unfortunately. Just really campy-looking and cheesy, and borrowing the entire cast from Hex, LOL.

As for the comedic thing -- yeah, definitely. The thing about Being Human was that all the promotions leading up to the premiere made it look like it was campier and more comedy-focused than it actually is. So it was a pleasant surprise when I actually saw it. :D

I think the thing that stops Being Human from faling into the cheese trap is where it come from and the characterisations of the three central characters. The pilot was part of a series of one off to do with fitting in? I think, or something along that line. And that gives it a more appealing level for me because the dynamics seem a stronger element and I always enoy that more.

I liked the mistique of the vampires in the pilot too. It seemed darker.

I commented the same thing to [livejournal.com profile] kendas, but I really preferred the old Mitchell. Looks, characterization, dynamic with George - and related plot with the vampires like you said above. Annie I'm rather ambivalent about in both the pilot and the series. I actually thought the writing was better for the pilot, but I enjoyed the 'series premiere' all the same. Either way, I'd watch it for Russel Tovey :) His character was pretty close to my favourite in History Boys, and as an actor I enjoy him as well. They made a really good call in not recasting him along with the others.

Demons *snort* I barely made it into that one. I didn't know much about it going in so my expectations were pretty minimal, but not even the fact I usually like Philip Glenister could save it for me.

....apparently I watch way too many British things *checks nationality*

I hate driving in the snow! Especially driving 30 miles one way in the snow. :P

Yeah, I don't think the new Mitchell is bad-looking and I don't mind him, but like you I preferred the old one's dynamic with George, and just his entire storyline is slightly different now, with different supporting actors and everything. It wasn't bad, just not as mysterious or as sharply written.

Haha! I don't think I watch as many British things as you, but I definitely watch my share. :P
