+ So I finally caught up with Damages through to the season finale, and holy hell is that a gorgeous show in every way. MUCH improved over last season, too. And it's no wonder why I love it; Show is not shy about the fact the crucial relationship in the show is between Ellen and Patty, everything starts and ends with Ellen and Patty, every event is used to plumb their relationship - men and their relationships with them are secondary (even though the supporting characters are all given really complex material in their own right). Hell, Ellen has a boyfriend this season who we rarely see.
It's like nearly every other show on television, only genderswapped.
In many ways that felt like a series finale, and a strong one, that suggests the showmakers are prepared not to get picked up. But I really hope it comes back. It's the only FX show I've seen that's remained strong past its second season (for me). Ellen's character arc over three seasons is beautifully written and acted and she's been one of my favorite tv protagonists.
This review sums up the third season wayyyy better than I could. If any of you guys watch, I could talk about it for an age.
+ Community last night was so good I can't even.
+ Finally, Vampire Diaries! Guess who's back and better than ever?? AND WITH BANGS. I was getting worried about Bonnie; four episodes without her is too damn many. But she came back strong, I thought. And yeah, the bangs WORK. *nod*
Bonnie and Elena, you guys. Probably my favorite relationship on TV right now. GIRLS. One of the most complex and layered and real female friendships since... idk, Gilmore Girls, maybe? Just. I love how Nina and Kat play it, how close they are, how genuine their concern for each other is, how they protect each other, how they don't lie to each other, how what they have is wholly separate from the dudes, how they aren't in competition, and now ... COMPLICATIONS. I love complications. I love that Bonnie came back changed from what happened to her Grams. I love that she's angry, and I love how HONEST she is with Elena about being angry, I love how even though she's angry she's trying not to put Elena in a bad position even though arguably, she has a right to because she is every inch as important to Elena. I love how much Elena cares, how bewildered and hurt she was, how she called Bonnie to give her a head's up, and just ... how much their relationship MATTERS on that show.
It's a rare and precious thing to be able to watch. NOW WORK THIS OUT, KIDS.
Bonnie's powers = delicious. How she didn't even hesitate to use them, how she was there for Elena despite being deeply confused and conflicted and hurting, and aahhhhh I should probably not get started again.
Stefan is a lot more fun on blood, sry to say. And Elena is just fantastic. Fantastic, and strong, and very much in love with him whilst not inclined to put up with his shit or excuse it. Strong enough to do what was necessary when it needed to be done.
I can see they're sort of playing up the tension between Elena and Damon while Stefan's indisposed (albeit very subtly for a CW show, probably thanks to the actors), and I'm a little conflicted on that. I LIKE that Elena's genuinely not seemed interested in Damon despite all the interaction they have, that she sees him for who he is, and that Damon is not a woobie - he's genuinely and unapologetically sociopathic - it's refreshing for this genre. :P Also, I like Elena and Stefan together more than I thought I would. On the other hand, I approve of harems. SO whatevs, I'm not complaining. Interesting to see how it all shakes out. And I hope Bonnie is involved. *g*
Stefan remains the only person in the world Damon Salvatore loves and softens to. Wincest Schmincest.
I love love love Anna and Pearl. SO MUCH WIN, Show, for keeping them around. And I think Anna makes Jeremy seem interesting which is no mean feat, and I'm rooting for them. And I have I mentioned I LOVE LOVE LOVE ANNA.
Annnnd, that's it!

Stefan IS pretty boring, but over time I've warmed to him. He's less of a walking cliche to me than he used to be. *g*

I ALSO LOVE ANNA AND PEARL. SO MUCH. I am pretty much resigned that one of them will not make it to the end of the season but I hope at least one of them will. :/ SO MUCH LOVE OMG.
ALSO BONNIE! I was SMITTEN by her new awesome powers and by her anger and yet by her maturity and love for Elena and her insistence to not make Elena choose. I WANT MORE BADASS AWESOME BONNIE.
