The Disney princess thing made me giggle, for wrong reasons. Poor Morgana, though this did remind me that Jasmine was a bit of a BAMF in her own right. You tend to forget the more awesome princesses from time to time.
Jasmine was awesome and one of my faves! idk, since I've grown up I've got a bit wiser when it comes to problematic Disney movies and their princesses, but there are a handful that I will never stop loving because they remain AWESOME, even to my critical eyes. *g*
Watching the Little Mermaid makes me cringe SO HARD when I watch it now, except I keep telling myself that Poor Unfortunate Souls was Disney's way of winking at the adult audience, saying yeah, we get that this is REALLY EFFIN' BAD, we get it. It's okay.
Except then they don't really go anywhere with that acknowledgment. Seeing it on Broadway was ridic. They made Ariel sound really ditsy from the get go and absurdly young. Flounder was her best friend and he was being played by a seven-year-old (an adorable one but THE IMPLICATIONS).
Sorry. Tangented there for a bit.
You know who isn't a princess and is so more awesome for it? Jane. I ♥ me some Jane.
Jane was awesome! She was academic and went on adventures with her daddy for the sake of adventures in the jungle to be FURTHER ENLIGHTENED. I imagine if she hadn't stayed with Tarzan, and let's admit, that was a close call, closer than in any other Disney film, she would have gone home, published a dozen books on Gorillas and human interaction, wrote a memoir that everyone took as fiction BUT ATE UP ANYHOW and became rich and then sailed back to the island, grabbed Tarzan and took London society by storm.
