fannish inanity
I haven't posted in a week!
1. So. Merls fandom be wankin'. I've read a few posts and I find myself extremely irritated with every facet of it, both sides really. I had typed up a Post on it and I may yet make it, but at this point who even cares. I'll just be brief: I find the facebook lurkage skeevy, but even if it's not how I'd spend my time I'm in no mood to make anyone feel shitty for looking at the pics. Full disclosure: I looked at them. Furthermore, as upset as everyone is, the stuff we do in fandom (as a group) can seem a bit weird and obsessive to a layperson even on a normal, non-stalky day, and we probably need to recognize that too. Everything will be fine.
For now I think I will not engage further, and just work on the fics I need to write.
I'll be happy when the kids start filming again.
2. Speaking of fandom, round two of Fandom March Madness/SteelCage Match is about to close. I'm absolutely not going to get all spammy about this with banners and things, but for the record I am all up in it and it is exciting.
Good news: My heart's own Lindsay Weir from Freaks and Geeks has beat out Damon Salvatore AND is about to knock out Zack Morris for a place in the Sweet Sixteen. How awesome is it that the nice, ordinary, non-typically-"badass" girl from a show that only ran for a season and no one really even watched is advancing so far?? Answer: PRETTY DAMN AWESOME.
[Here is where I remind myself to make a post I have been wanting to make about the nice girls and the fact that, much as I love girls who can kick some ass, if I ran the world the term 'HBIC' would be stricken from the fannish vernacular. Unless applied to Joan Holloway. Amen.]
Bad news: my bracket's been blown out of the water this round. Considering I put down Juliet Burke, Joannie Holloway, Sydney Bristow (on what astral plane is Chuck a better spy than Sydney Bristow, REALLY), and Eric Northman... things do not look good.
3. The Oscars were pretty great as far as awards shows go. I'm OBSCENELY happy Avatar lost Best Picture. Even happier that The Hurt Locker's the one that did win. Quick points for those who weren't subject to my inane tweets:
- Kathryn Bigelow is a big damn hero. *\o/* God I hope this is a turning point for the film industry.
- Helen Mirren is hiding a portrait in her basement for reals.
- Zoe Saldana's dress is growing on me. As if I could resist anything about what Zoe Saldana chooses to be.
- Carey Mulligan's dress was my favorite. She is a favorite, period.
- The two of them walking down the stairs together and presenting was the most adorable thing that happened all evening. Additionally, I could listen to them both talk all day long.
- The horror montage was awesome.
- Christoph Waltz is of the opinion that an Oscar + Penelope Cruz is an über bingo. I can only agree.
- The best Actor/Actress nominee presentation was sort of weird eulogy-esque and overlong. But.
----- Colin Farrell on the stage waxing lyrical about Jeremy Renner, TO Jeremy Renner. Just don't ever stop.
----- Oprah saluting Gabby Sidibe (who is the best ever btw). Made me tear up.
- I went from being disappointed Sandra Bullock won Best Actress to being thrilled, all in the space of a two minute speech. Seriously, I got whiplash a little bit. How did I forget what a cool chick she is?
