sons of anarchy 2x01
I was going to review last night's SPN, but you guys have covered everything. I was going to say, in essence, "LOL FOREVER" and "D'AWWWW, BOYS". Ya'll were more eloquent.
So. Something else, while I'm thinking about it. I finally caught up with the season premiere of Sons of Anarchy. I'm not even sure how many of you are watching; I don't think I've mentioned it here before, but anyway. I'd been looking forward to it.
I thought the ep was pretty good, up until the end. Anyone else sick of rape as a plot device? I actually groaned "Oh no, no, NO" at my screen as I realised what was coming. I don't know why I didn't expect that and I definitely didn't expect it to be so graphic.
What was the point? How flimsy is that? Using the wife to get to the husband -- that's original. And why would they wear the masks, but not cover up their tattoos, and then proceed to tell Gemma exactly who they are by giving her a message to deliver - the same one they just gave Clay earlier that night? It's just weak, man.
And why would Sutter do this to one of the most kickass women on TV?
I'm not happy, especially since I was mostly impressed with the ep before this. And that scene? Disturbing as hell. There are other ways to create dramatic tension, people. Better ways to be ~gritty~ and ~realistic~. *sigh*
Is there, like, some sort of elephant graveyard where we can send these tired, overdone tropes that always seem to hinge on women being victimized? Because I'm over it.
