HBP, or this is your brain on drugs.

I saw it. I... kinda loved it. :D I think my expectations were pretty low because HBP is my least favorite of the books to begin with, but it was also pretty legitimately well done as far as HP films go.

ANYWAY.

+ The acting was vastly improved from just about every character. Even Hermione; I was watching for those eyebrows and they didn't bounce nearly as much. I actually kind of liked Emma's performance. *g* Rupert was awesome, and Dan and Tom stood out the most for me.

+ TRIO UNDER THE INFLUENCE FTW. Seriously, they were all high/drunk at some point in the film, y/y? And all of them adorable with it. Hermione's all "wheeeee" throwing her arms around the boys, and Ron's all googly with the love potion and Harry on Felix Felicis was MADE of WIN. THE PINCER-MIMING. I died. I love Dan.

+ Harry: Was amazing. Sweet and awkward but a bit thick sometimes but so brave and such a trooper for Dumbledore and his scenes with Slughorn were awesome and well-acted and just love.

+ Ron: Okay, he was pretty much comic relief the whole time, right? But who cares, he was awesome, I grinned like an idiot whenever he was on screen. So freaking adorable. Rupert did his best job yet, I think.

+ Hermione: This was probably the best I've seen her in the films; I've always been a little disappointed in the past because she's my favorite character and I have such clear images in my mind of how most of her scenes look in the books. Anyway, I was pleased with Emma in this one. I would've liked for her to be more brittle and less sobby for the canary scene. But I'm nitpicking, because overall it was a good scene. For reasons I shall expand on later. ;) And the Potions scene! She was so perfectly HERMIONE. <3

+ Draco: Oh, Draco. I've never cared either way about him in the films before. Never had many lines and they weren't delivered that well anyway, but Tom really knocked it out of the park on this one. He was so afraid but so determined, and you could just really feel how preoccupied he was throughout the year, and just increasingly more troubled, until it all came to a head. Loved the Sectumsempra scene. And the entire sequence with Draco and the Vanishing cabinet, up until the point where the DEs show up at Hogwarts was well done and came across really well onscreen.

+ Luna. <33333 I love her. I like that she got to be the one to save Harry on the train, and fix his nose, and HOW CUTE IS SHE.

+ Lavender was hilarious! And really well-played. Kind of adorable at first, then steadily more stalkeriffic. And Ron, oh Ron, you jerk. ILU. ♥

+ Cormac was smarmy and sexy and PERFECT. UNF. I about died when he did that finger-lick thing with the ice cream and Hermione was all O_o. Love her, love him, loved that whole sequence. Hermione looked great at Slughorn's party, too, and I loved that scene with Harry and Cormac and the dragon balls. LOL.

+ Ginny: I actually liked her; she had a bit of a personality. Her shutting up the Quidditch team was pretty cool.

+ Slughorn was WONDERFUL. I was so pleased with him. His story about Lily and all that invented backstory really worked for me and tugged on my heart. Oh, Lily. :(

+ Snape is awesome. That's all. I've always thought Rickman too old for the role, but you can't fault the way he plays him. Also, I want a gif of him turning from Harry after that final stand. EPIC. (But is it just me or does Alan have the WEIRDEST HANDS EVER? I don't know why I notice these things but it was even more pronounced than in OotP.)

Also, I wish there'd been a bit more exposition on why he's the Half-blood prince, but it's not too crucial to what happens later. It's just, sometimes I think about those folks who are watching the films and haven't read the books, and wonder how it is they can even follow anything with the choppiness of the adaptations. :P

+ Bellatrix is one crazy, scenery-chewing, awesome Death Eater. I loved the Unbreakable Vow scene.

+ The much-hyped textual romance: Might as well get this out of the way, yes? I didn't mind the Ron and Hermione bits as much as I thought I would. They were really cute; I love Hermione and I love Ron, so, yeah. They were less cruel to each other and Hermione was more herself than she was in the books. Maybe that's due to lack of time to spend on it, but either way, I was glad of it. I do wish they hadn't put a name to Hermione's third Amortentia smell. Harry/Ginny, though... IDK. I think the less said about that, the better. You all know I don't ship these two, anyway. No chest monster though, right? That's always good! But whose idea was it to have her drop and "tie his shoe"? Ginny doesn't offer herself up to Harry until the last book, and she certainly doesn't do it in the middle of the hallway. XD Also, they didn't date or have that breakup scene. So who knows what's going on with them.

+ Now, let's go back to non-canon land, where I have always been happiest: was anyone else shipping Harry/Diner Girl? Just me? Okay. They were cute, though, right? Stupid Dumbledore, stepping in JUST when Harry was about to go and meet her after work.

Harry/Luna though, right? Right? I MEAN. I have always loved those two and they had the cutest scenes ever, and just adorable chemistry because he is so awkward and bemused and she is so blunt and spacey and his reactions to her are always perfect. He just thinks she's the coolest. XD Also, Harry/Ron was all over the place. I about died when Ron leapt into Harry's bed. And them fighting over the potions book was priceless. And the fake!Felix Felicis scene OMG. And the 'nice skin' conversation! Which was not so much shippy as the two of them being guys and best mates and clueless and adorable and funny. But I love those two so much.

But can we just talk about the H/Hr for a minute? JFC, they had more screentime than anybody. And yes, it is totally platonic, and totally not happening, but there is so much GIF and icon and vid fodder in all of the looks and touching they did. Good lord. I love their friendship so much. Even if they spent a lot of the time talking about other people they like, I love that they're so close and attuned to each other and how well Hermione reads him and doesn't ever let him get away with his self-sacrificing emo crap and how they lean on each other, and that scene at the very end, and how beautiful do they look on screen together. And that's all, really. ♥ (Insert lame crazy H/Hr shipper joke here; I said friendship, okay? Friendship. Still beautiful. XD)

Enough about ships. Except, there was definite Draco/Harry and Snape/Draco happening as well. And Dumbledore ships h/hr. BUT MOVING ON.

+ Riddle! Dude, awesome. Teeny riddle was downright creepy, and teenage Riddle was scary in a more calculating way. And all the pensive memories were so well done. I love the black dropplets materializing into scenery and people and the slight transparency of things.

+ Harry and Dumbledore's trip to the cave was so good. I nearly cried when Harry had to make him drink the potion, and afterward, with the Inferi, everyone in the theatre jumped when the hand reached out of the water. Also, the Inferi all looked like Smeagol, Y/Y? So creepy and well-done and the fire... Dumbledore is still a badass.

+ Speaking of which, Dumbledore: Michael Gambon did a much better job this time, and some of you will know I've thought he was a crap Dumbledore in the past. But I really enjoyed him and his death scene was so sad. SO SAD. Harry putting his hand on Dumbledore's chest, and at that point I did cry. The wands pointing to the sky, too. Oh. :(

+ I thought the Burrow attack scene was good, but does anyone know why it was there? What purpose did it serve to the plot? Maybe I'm missing something. I think DH would've been better served if there'd been a scene with Scrimgeour instead, or something. I mean, you're going to burn down the Burrow, and devote all of 30 seconds to the aftermath? What's the point?

+ The Quidditch was made of awesome.

+ Don't know about you all, but I could really have done without the gratuitous humongous dead spider shots. Maybe that's just me but I couldn't look. Just EWWWWW. :P

+ McGonagall: oh how I love you. You only get two lines per film but you always make them the best lines.

+ Neville: might as well have not even been in the movie. WTF was with him serving drinks, looking like he was on a cruise ship or something? D: Nev deserved better. Remus and Tonks also may as well not have been in the film. :/

+ Overall: I adored it. The pacing was, as always, insane, but the character moments were great. It was as good as OotP if not better, because it was funnier; a good balance between light and dark. And the dark parts were REALLY dark. And it LOOKED amazing, and the acting was good, and the Trio was great. I love that it closed on the three of them, with so much in store.

And I'm probably forgetting things, but this is plenty long enough. I highly recommend it.

Also, the Inferi all looked like Smeagol, Y/Y?

YES. I swear, when I saw them my first thought was "OMG they look like Gollum."

And I just agree with most all of what you said about the movie.

The Burrow thing, I think, added some emotional depth on that side, showing a bit more of how serious the whole thing is for everyone regardless of whether they're magical or not. I mean, we got to see the Muggle terrorization with the bridge, and yeah, they showed them destroying Ollivander's and dragging him out, but adding something happening to the Weasleys? Yeah, that's the kind of thing that really just hits it home that it's real and serious and dangerous and just not going away unless stuff can be done.

But can we just talk about the H/Hr for a minute? JFC, they had more screentime than anybody. I agree with every bit of this. And DUMBLEDORE TOTALLY DOES SHIP H/Hr.
